  14. <p>     DIED. Rufino Tamayo, 91, prolific Mexican painter and
  15. muralist; in Mexico City. Inspired by the work of Jackson Pollock
  16. and Pablo Picasso, Tamayo employed earthy colors and surrealistic
  17. images that blended his Zapotec Indian origins and Mexican folk
  18. art. His subjects ranged from animals and fruit in still lifes
  19. to play and dance in elaborate outdoor scenes. Along with Diego
  20. Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros, Tamayo
  21. brought international attention to 20th century Mexican art.
